Privacy Policy

Account information. When you sign in (for example, with Google), we receive basic details such as your name, email address, and account identifier.

The content you create.This is the heart of the Service: audio recordings, photos you upload, and the transcripts and translations generated from them, along with details you add such as a subject’s name, chosen questions, topics, and bookmarks.

Information about people you record.A recording necessarily contains another person’s voice and what they say, and may include their name and likeness. You provide this on their behalf, and you are responsible for having their consent as described in our Terms. That person does not need an account.

Usage and device information. We collect behavioral and technical data — for example, which features are used, whether a session was completed, error and performance logs, and general device and browser information — to run and improve the Service. This is about usage patterns, not the content of your recordings.

Payment information. Purchases are handled by our third-party payment processor. We receive confirmation of a purchase and what was bought, but we do not collect or store your full card number.

We use the information we collect to:

• provide the Service — store your recordings, transcribe and translate them, play back audio, and build the keepsakes you ask for;
• let you share content with the family members you invite;
• process purchases and gifts, and provide customer support;
• keep the Service secure, prevent abuse, and fix problems;
• understand aggregate, de-identified usage so we can improve — never by reading the substance of your stories; and
• comply with legal obligations.

To turn a recording into a transcript and to translate between languages, we use trusted third-party AI providers. Your audio and transcript are sent to these providers only to perform that processing and return the result to you. We select providers that do not use your content to train their models, and we do not use it to train ours. The output is automated and may contain errors — please treat it as a helpful draft, not a perfect record.

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as needed to run the Service:

• With family you invite— the people you add to a project can see that project’s recordings, transcripts, and keepsakes.
• With service providers — cloud hosting and storage, the AI transcription/translation providers described above, and our payment processor, all acting on our behalf to deliver the Service.
• For legal and safety reasons — when required by law, to enforce our Terms, or to protect the rights and safety of people.
• In a business transfer — if MAGIM is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may transfer as part of that transaction, subject to this Policy.

We keep your content for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, and until you delete it. When you delete content or your account, we remove or de-identify it within a reasonable period, except for limited backup copies or records we must retain by law. Because some deletions are irreversible, please download anything you want to keep first — the Service lets you export your audio and transcript.

On our twenty questions page you can ask us to send you a printable copy. That form is the only place on GramGrams where we collect an address for anything other than running your account, so it is described separately here.

What we collect. Your email address, which printable edition you chose, which language of the page you were reading, whether you ticked the Mid-Autumn reminder, and — if you arrived from an advert — the campaign tag in that link. We do not store your IP address; it is used briefly, in memory, only to stop the form being submitted thousands of times.

What we send, and how often.The printable questions, and — only if you asked for it — one reminder in the week of the Mid-Autumn Festival. Beyond that, at most a few messages a year, timed to the occasions when families are actually together. Never anything you didn’t ask for from a different tick box.

We never sell or share it. This list is not rented, traded, or handed to an advertising network, and it is not used to build a profile of you.

How to stop. Every message carries an unsubscribe link that works in one click, takes effect immediately, and never asks you to reconsider. You can also email us and we will do it for you.

How long we keep it. Until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. If you unsubscribe we keep your address on a suppression record so that we cannot email you again by mistake — if you would rather we held nothing at all, ask us to delete it and we will remove the record entirely.

Deleting it. This list is keyed to your email address, not to a GramGrams account, so deleting an account does not remove an address from it — and you may well be on it without ever having made an account. Email us at gramgrams@magim.online and we will delete it.

You can review, edit, download, and delete your content within the Service, and you can delete your account. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing.

California residents. Under the CCPA/CPRA you have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use it, to request access to or deletion or correction of it, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do notsell or “share” personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

If you are on the question-deck email list, section 6 above covers unsubscribing and deletion — including for people who never made an account, whose right to erasure the account-deletion tools do not reach.

GramGrams is intended for adults (18+) and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it. Note that a grandchild’s voice may appear in a recording an adult makes and controls; that content is managed by the adult account holder.

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including access controls that limit recordings to the family members you invite. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, however, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. For anything truly irreplaceable, please keep your own copy.

GramGrams is operated from the United States, and your information is processed and stored on servers located in the United States. If you use the Service from outside the U.S., you understand that your information will be transferred to and processed there.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Policy.
